My Sailors Knot is a literal and baking twist on the traditional plaited loaf. After looking through a book of nautical knots I thought it would be fun to re-create a giant knot with dough rather than rope and sprinkle the loaf with sea salt flakes, adding to the coastal theme. By combining white and wholemeal flour, produces not only the best of both breads in one loaf, but an effective rope contrast and marble effect when sliced through. Finally by taking advantage of the time my bread has to rise and prove I thought I would make my own homemade butter. Flavoured with lemon zest, garlic and parsley I shaped the finished pat of butter into oyster pearls with the help of my trusty metal measuring spoons. All in all a ‘wise’ and measured success.
